How has your experience in the Goalpha Intern Mentorship Programme been so far?

I:The sessions have been so fun and interactive, our mentors have always been around to answer all our questions and

E: The sessions have been very informative so far. I tend to zone out a lot, so coming for this programme and being so interested in each activity that I pay full attention and participate has been a surprise to me.

How did you hear of GIMP?

I: I attended Achimota School, and our school counsellor brought the GIMP forms around to be filled by those who were interested.

E: I also attended Achimota School, and it was the same for me.

As interns in the field of Law, what’s something new you’ve learned these past few days?

I: Through the sessions we’ve had, I’m now well aware of various legal systems running in our country, and we’ve been able to go in-depth into what these systems entail.

E: What I’ve picked up is that the law is what you make it. Your interpretation of the law isn’t exactly like everyone else.

Did you have any doubts coming into this programme?

I: Initially, I thought everything was going to be repetitive; coming in everyday to listen to long boring talks, but then it has actually proved otherwise. I’ve had so much fun.

E: Honestly, same. I thought it would be very monotonous. I’m glad to see that there’s a bit of everything -fun, learning and excitement.

We’re only a few days in. What do you expect as you continue with GIMP?

I: Gaining in-depth knowledge in the field of law. Getting to know more of my fellow interns. I’ve made a few friends here and I want to leave having known lots more.

E: I just want to gain more experience in the field of Law, so that in case-and God forbid-I don’t make it into Law school at the university, I would have this experience to fall back on.

For your field experience, what do you expect to see in the field of Law?

I: I’m expecting to see lawyers in action. I’m expecting to see lawyers around; working, arguing and debating about stuff. I want to see what the correct approaches are to various matters argued out in court.

I: I’m expecting to see the law in action. I want to see the court proceedings, the typing the drafting, all the good stuff.

Have you watched any law-related movies or series that piqued your interest in law?

I: I’ve watched three series: The Lincoln Lawyer, Suits, and How To Get Away With Murder.

E: Okay, I’ve watched a few episodes here and there of How To Get Away With Murder, Suits and Legally Blonde.

Are you hoping to see a Harvey Specter-Mike Ross moment on your visits to the courts?

I: I’m definitely expecting to see that. Honestly, the Lincoln Lawyer is my favourite Law series, but your question didn’t mention that (laughs).

Okay, so which situation do you want played out during one of your court visits?

I: Being in the room when lawyers are seriously arguing, and they’re missing a point which I obviously and truly have the answers to (Ellisa bursts out laughing).

So you’d stand up and interject the argument in that scenario?!

I: I’d go like “let’s all calm down, I have the solution” (Ellisa keeps laughing)

E: (After calming down) I want to see a “wild card moment” from a lawyer considered as an underdog. The one whose opposing counsel doesn’t believe in.

It’s giving “Legally Blonde” isn’t it? (all laugh)

We’re very glad to have had this interesting interaction with you guys. Thank you!
